Over time and a lot of practice, I’ve cracked the Wordle code and developed some killer strategies that have turned me into a Wordle master. Today, I’m going to share my personal playbook with you. From word selection to letter placement tricks, these are the techniques I use to guarantee that I’ll find today’s answer, no matter how tricky it is.

Some readers may not know much about Wordle. So, here’s a quick explanation about the game.

Wordle, by NYTimes, is one of the most popular word-finding puzzle games in which players have to find a 5 letter word for today’s puzzle. The game updates on a daily basis according to regional time, giving players a tough time finding the answer in only 6 tries.

You don’t get any guess, clue, hint, you name it, anything that could lead to finding today’s Wordle answer. You just start by guessing a five letter word, and then it will color them in:

  • Green 🟢 – that defines the letter is correctly placed.
  • Yellow 🟡 – the letter is in today’s answer but not in the correct position.
  • Grey âš«– the letter is not part of today’s Wordle answer.

To discover today’s Wordle, you must understand these colors as they are the hints and can lead to the answer.

7 Powerful Strategies to Find Today’s Wordle Answer

Now, let’s talk about the strategies that only a few Wordlers know about.

Always Start with a Powerful Guess

The starting of Wordle should be very impressive in that it displays one or more letters as ‘green’ or ‘yellow.’ And for that, you don’t need to start with typical 5 letter words like “ABOUT,” “GROUP,” WORLD,” or “FOUND.” No doubt they also contain vowels in them, but it’s not a game of vowels but strategies. 

So, instead of wasting your guesses, you should focus on some rare words from the dictionary. After doing in-depth research on different platforms, such as YouTube, Reddit, Quora, and Google, I’ve found that there are some magical 5 letter words that the majority of Wordlers use as their first guess that works every time for them.

It might be true that you are also utilizing a specific word to start today’s puzzle, but the below ones could reduce the possibility to a major amount. Check out the list below.

  • SLATE
  • CRANE
  • RAISE
  • ROATE
  • SALET
  • TRASH
  • ADIEU
  • IRATE
  • AISLE
  • DREAM

Simply put, using such words could help you discover today’s puzzle answer in fewer guesses without getting stuck in a loop or breaking your streak.

Avoid Guessing Plural Words

Sometimes, players use plural words like RAINS, FIRES, and LIKES that don’t lead them to the Wordle answer. This is because Wordle doesn’t include “S” or “ES” answers, but you can play them as a guess word.

For instance, words like GEESE, FUNGI, CACTI, or WOMEN could be your Wordle answer, and they are also plurals. On the other hand, 5 letter words like BIKES, RINGS, BELLS, TRIPS, or PACES can’t be your answers but playable in the Wordle.

In order not to waste your guesses in such (S or ES) five-letter words, try using different words that might help you. Besides, if you check the past Wordle answers, you will find that there’s no 5 letter word ending in ES or S. So, this means there may not be any such words in the future puzzles.

Try the Same Double Letter Words

Did you know that an average of 4 out of 10 players can’t be able to guess the word because the same letter appears multiple times in it? For instance, in some of the last puzzles of October 2024 and November 2024, I’ve found that the majority of Wordle answers included the same letters, challenging players to discover.

Just in two months, we have seen almost 10 same-letter Wordle words, which clearly shows that the game is giving players a hard time.

So, if you are not using repeating letter words, then use them as they might be your today’s Wordle answer. For instance, if the answer is “MOMMY” and you have guessed “MO” at the start and “Y” at the end, chances are you will try words like “MONEY” or “MOLDY,” thinking that could be your Wordle answer. But instead, the “MOMMY” is the answer, repeating the letter M in it. Therefore, consider using repeating letter words as your Wordle guesses.

Remember, Wordle is in US English

Due to NYT Wordle’s inclusion in the English dictionary, some players believe that any English word, even UK English, can be used. But remember that Wordle only accepts US English words, and even if you are from Canada, Australia, or the United Kingdom, you can’t use your own language words.

On the other hand, this bamboozled almost every UK speaker when they found that one of Wordle’s previous answers was FAVOR (that’s actually a UK English word) for the 12 Jan 2022 puzzle.

However, according to what I’ve found, Wordle uses American English, which means the answer can’t be in British English or any other type.

Get Clue from Previous Wordle Archive

One fascinating fact about Wordle is that it doesn’t repeat the same answer in the puzzle. That could be your clue to win Wordle without wasting your guesses using such words that have already been used in the game.

By learning the previous Wordle answers, you can get a clue that certain of your words (that you have in your mind) can’t be the solutions. So, if you want to get clues from the previous Wordle archive answers, you can simply navigate to today’s Wordle answer of WordleSolverX, and there all of the previous answers are displayed. Don’t Start Playing Hard Mode Initially

When you first start playing Wordle, it’s tempting to dive straight into Hard Mode since it sounds a bit more challenging (for me, YES, it was, very 😟). However, it’s often better to hold off until you’re more familiar with the game mechanics. 

On top of that, a disadvantage of Hard Mode is that you can only guess letters you have already identified, limiting your options and slowing your progression. Also, the guessed (green or yellow) letters should be in their subsequent position in the difficult mode.

Instead, in the beginning, you might want to play without the restrictions of Hard Mode. This way, you can experiment freely and try a variety of words, even if they don’t reuse the letters you’ve already guessed. It is easier to figure out the right word with this approach because more possibilities are explored, and more information is gathered more rapidly.

Use Wordle Solver
